A positive vibe is running through the Snowy Mountains ski resorts this week, with Mother Nature finally delivering the goods.
At Perisher, marketing manager Maddi Ventura said 117 snowguns were running overnight on Sunday and the snow was still falling yesterday (Monday, 19 June).
“The blizzard has well and truly arrived here at Perisher, with 3 cm of snow overnight and a significant amount of snow expected this afternoon,” she said. “The energy here is high.”
At Thredbo, the storm delivered the goods over the weekend.
Thredbo media advised: “Snow started falling all the way down to the village on Sunday morning and it hasn’t stopped since.
“The team have been working day and night to get the mountain ready. We had 146 snowguns firing from 4 pm on Sunday and the grooming team were out in full force spreading snow across the runs.
“From Tuesday (20 June), the Cruiser and Gunbarrel Chairlifts will be spinning, providing skiing and snowboarding access to Walkabout in the Cruiser Area. Plus, the Merritts Gondola and Kosciuszko Chairlift will be open for scenic passengers.
“The blizzard continued today but blue skies are expected to return tomorrow. We couldn’t be more excited to get on the slopes! And the forecast is even better.
“Experts are calling for up to 40 cm in the next week.”
At Selwyn, which opened on 10 June but has had lifts silent because of the lack of snow, yesterday’s snow cams were showing white-out conditions.
