Elderly man knocked to the ground by car thief in Moruya

An 83-year-old man was assaulted before having his car stolen on Vulcan Street in Moruya on Tuesday, 20 July.

Emergency services attended the car park where the incident happened at around 2:00 pm.

Police were told the elderly man was in the car park when he was approached by an unknown male who knocked him to the ground and stole his car keys, before fleeing the scene in the man’s vehicle.

The vehicle is a 2001 Holden Commodore, bronze in colour and has NSW registration ‘ATZ 12F’.

The man was treated at the scene for knee and arm injuries before being taken to Moruya Hospital in a stable condition.

Officers from South Coast Police District commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The male offender is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 175cm tall and of solid build.
