Man dies after car and minibus crash in Cowra

UPDATE Monday 18 December 10:00 am: A spokesperson for NSW Police has confirmed the 32-year-old man was arrested on Sunday (17 December) and charged with dangerous driving occasioning death – driving in a dangerous manner, causing bodily harm by misconduct while in charge of a motor vehicle, negligent driving (occasioning death) and two counts of knowingly making a false/misleading statement. He was refused bail to appear before Orange Local Court on Monday (18 December).

Sunday 17 December 11:26 am: An 84-year-old man has died following a crash in Cowra overnight.

At about 10:40 pm on Saturday (16 December), emergency services were called to Fitzroy Avenue after reports a Kia Sorento and a Toyota HiAce Minibus had crashed, causing the bus to overturn.

A NSW Police spokesperson said the Kia hit a nearby street sign.

Officers from Chifley Police District attended, along with NSW Ambulance paramedics.

They found an 84-year-old passenger on the bus had been ejected, and died at the scene.

The minibus driver, a 61-year-old woman, and four other passengers suffered minor injuries, with three taken to Cowra Hospital for further treatment.

A NSW Police spokesperson said the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash was ongoing.

“As part of inquiries, police spoke to the owner of the Kia, a 32-year-old man,” the spokesperson said.

“He was taken to Cowra Hospital for mandatory testing before being released pending further investigations.”

A crime scene was established, with specialist officers from the Crash Investigation Unit attending to examine the scene.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
