UPDATE 5:30 pm: A NSW Police spokesperson has told Region the driver of the car has died and a crime scene has been established.
“At about 1:20 pm today (17 November), emergency services were called to the Princes Highway, Benandarah, approximately 10 km north from Batemans Bay, following reports of a two-vehicle crash,” the spokesperson said.
“On arrival, officers attached to South Coast Police District located a grey hatchback and an orange truck damaged due to a collision.”
The driver of the hatchback was removed from the vehicle by Fire and Rescue NSW, but died at the scene.
The 41-year-old truck driver, the sole occupant, was not injured.
He has been taken to Batemans Bay Hospital for mandatory testing.
According to Live Traffic NSW, parked vehicles can now pass the incident site as one lane is open in each direction.
Motorists are being asked to slow down and expect delays.
Police have opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

4:35 pm: The Princes Highway has been closed in both directions following a two-vehicle crash.
Motorists are being asked to delay their travel until further notice.
According to Live Traffic NSW, a truck and a car were involved in the crash on Friday afternoon (17 November).
The collision occurred on the Princes Highway near Picnic Road, close to North Batemans Bay on the NSW South Coast.
Emergency services, a heavy vehicle tow truck and a tow truck are reportedly on the scene, and heavy vehicles are being parked.
According to Live Traffic NSW, light vehicles can use alternate pathways.
Those heading north from North Batemans Bay can take the Kings Highway to Braidwood, Nerriga Road to Nerriga, Braidwood Road, Turpentine Road, and back to Princes Highway at Tomerong.
Those heading south can take Turpentine Road, Braidwood Road to Nerriga, Nerriga Road to Braidwood, Kings Highway, and back to Princes Highway at North Batemans Bay.
