UPDATE 11 am, 29 November: Police are calling for anyone with information about a fatal car crash to come forward.
A collision between a truck and a car at about 1:30 pm yesterday (28 November) closed the Princes Highway at East Lynne for several hours. It has since re-opened, according to Live Traffic NSW.
A NSW Police spokesperson said that the driver of the utility, who died at the scene, was a man aged 37.
The truck driver – a 57-year-old man – was taken to hospital for mandatory testing yesterday. He was uninjured in the crash, police say.
As they continue to investigate the crash, anyone who has information or dashcam footage is asked to contact South Coast Police District on 02 4421 9699. Alternatively, people can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
UPDATE 3 pm, 28 November: A person has been killed in a crash between a truck and car on the South Coast, leaving a major highway closed in both directions.
A NSW Police spokesperson said that at about 1:30 pm today (28 November), emergency services were called to the Princes Highway at East Lynne following a crash between a truck and a utility.
The driver of the utility died at the scene, and has not been formally identified.
The male truck driver was uninjured. He has been taken to Batemans Bay Hospital for mandatory testing.
Officers attached to the South Coast Police District have started an investigation, and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
As of 3 pm, the Princes Highway at East Lynne remains closed in both directions. Keep an eye on Live Traffic NSW for regular traffic updates.
2:20 pm, 28 November: The Princes Highway is closed in both directions following a two-vehicle crash today (28 November).
Emergency services were called to the scene after a crash between a truck and a car.
It is understood at least one person has been trapped in a vehicle.
According to Live Traffic NSW, the highway is closed in both directions at East Lynne, north of Batemans Bay.
Motorists have been asked to avoid the area.
“Ongoing police investigations are expected to take some time,” Live Traffic NSW said on its website.
Live Traffic NSW recommends that vehicles under 19 metres and 50 tons use the Kings Highway, Nerriga Road and Braidwood Road to travel between Batemans Bay and Nowra. Vehicles over 19 metres or 50 tons should use the Kings Highway, Hume Highway, Picton Road and the M1 Princes Motorway when travelling between Batemans Bay and Wollongong.
Motorists travelling from Sydney are asked to use the Hume Highway.
