Several injured, Monaro Highway closed after multi-vehicle crash

Multiple people have been injured and some taken to hospital after a multi-vehicle crash on the Monaro Highway.

A NSW Police spokesperson said the incident occurred around 10 am on Thursday (11 January) about 2 km south of the Michelago township in the Monaro region of NSW.

“Officers attached to Monaro Police District were told a truck travelling south along the Monaro Highway has hit a number of stationary cars at a roadworks site, before rolling,” they said.

Officers attached to Monaro Police District have established a crime scene and the Crash Investigation Unit will also attend.

NSW Ambulance paramedics were called to the scene and treated the driver of one of the vehicles at the scene for head and spinal injuries, while the truck driver received treatment for minor injuries.

Both were taken to Canberra Hospital.

The other drivers were treated for minor injuries on scene.

The Monaro Highway is closed in both directions as of 1:30 pm on Thursday, according to Live Traffic NSW.

A spokesperson for NSW Rural Fire Service said the highway was expected to remain closed for several hours.

Motorists are asked to use an alternative route, such as the Snowy Mountains and Hume highways, and can visit Live Traffic NSW for updates.
