UPDATED 4:00 pm, 8 August: One man is dead and two people are in Canberra Hospital following an accident between a car and a truck at Benandarah, north of Batemans Bay this morning.
NSW Police has confirmed that the male driver of the car died at the scene and is yet to be formally identified.
The male driver of the truck and female passenger were taken to Batemans Bay Hospital for treatment and mandatory testing, before being transferred to Canberra Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
The accident occurred at about 8:40 am (8 August).
Emergency services were called to the Princes Highway near Shannons Road, Benandarah, about 10km north of Batemans Bay, after reports of a truck and car crash.
Officers from the South Coast Police District established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist police from the crash investigation unit.
Both lanes of the Princes Highway were closed to traffic following the accident. At 4:00 pm, the southbound lane remains closed while investigations continue and local authorities ensure the highway is safe for motorists.
Inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash continue and anyone with information or who may have dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
The entire South Coast has also been deluged by heavy rainfall totals, making for slippery and dangerous conditions on the road.
The accident is the second fatality in the Batemans Bay area, after a man died following a car fire on the Kings Highway, west of Nelligen, near Batemans Bay on 3 August.
