A man has been charged with several offences after a fatal crash on the NSW South Coast.
Emergency services were called to Meroo Road in Bombaderry on Wednesday evening (10 January), after reports a sedan and a utility collided.
A NSW Police spokesperson said a 53-year-old man had been charged on Thursday morning (11 January) with dangerous driving occasioning death, dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, negligent driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and driving a motor vehicle with a suspended licence.
“Police will allege the utility was travelling south along Meroo Road, when it allegedly crossed onto the opposite side of the road, hitting the sedan head on,” the spokesperson said.
The 48-year-old male driver of the sedan died at the scene, while a 10-year-old male passenger was airlifted to Randwick Children’s Hospital with serious head, pelvic and arm injuries.
The 53-year-old male – the alleged driver of the utility – was able to free himself, along with the 52-year-old female passenger.
They were both treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being transported to Shoalhaven Hospital.
The female passenger was later transferred to Wollongong Hospital.
A bedside hearing was later held at Shoalhaven Hospital for the utility’s driver, where he was granted conditional bail and will appear before Nowra Local Court on 15 March.
