Man and horse killed in car collision near Moruya

A man has died after the car he was travelling in collided with a horse in the Eurobodalla last night.

Emergency services were called to the distressing scene on the Princes Highway, near Moruya at about 7.45pm (Friday 6 September 6).

“It’s believed a Toyota Rav 4 was travelling north when a horse ran onto the road and was hit by the car,” police report.

“The Toyota’s passenger, a 72-year-old man, was unable to be revived and died at the scene.

“The driver, a 67-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries and did not require hospitalisation.

“The horse was also killed.”

Officers from the South Coast Police District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.

The local couple were returning to their farm in Termeil from an art exhibition in Moruya. There were three horses, escaped from a local property, seen galloping down the highway prior to the accident. The female driver was hospitalised overnight for minor injuries and shock whilst her husband died on impact.
