Goulburn-Mulwaree Council has awarded the contract for the second phase of the development of the Wollondilly Walking Track from Cemetery Street in Goulburn to the new Josephs Gate subdivision.

The project received $2 million in funding through the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund – a joint initiative of the Federal and NSW Government, in October last year.

Local earthmoving company Denrith Pty Ltd, has been awarded the contract for phase two, worth $607,978 and making up nearly two kilometres of path from the new Josephs Gate subdivision in Goulburn to the old aqueduct located behind the Goulburn Gaol.

Adding to the already increasing prevalence of the track as a tourism destination for visitors to Goulburn and a hotspot for locals, the new section of pathway will head through the picturesque Copford Reach which is considered one of Goulburn’s hidden gems.

It was recently recommended to council to add a new boat ramp, toilet block, parking areas and landscaping for the development of picnic areas in the location.

These recommendations will be incorporated into future works plans of Goulburn-Mulwaree Council.

The river walkway project is expected to be completed in early 2022, with phase three to connect phase one and two by creating a pedestrian crossing over the Wollondilly River.
