The search for two men who went missing after the ute they were in was swept away in floodwaters at Bevendale, north of Yass, last month has ended with the discovery of a second body.

NSW Police said the multi-agency search began at Prestons Creek, about 50 km from Boorowa, on 31 October, after a ute containing four men was swept off a flooded causeway on Rugby Road.

The pair who were inside the car managed to swim to safety but the other two men, who had apparently been in the rear tray, were swept downstream with the utility.

During their lengthy search, police divers found one body on 3 November. After more searches of the creek, a second body was found on 6 November.

“While the bodies are yet to be formally identified, they are believed to be the missing men,” police said.

“The search operation has concluded, and a report will be prepared for the coroner.”
