Man dies while skiing at Thredbo after striking pole

A man has died in a skiing accident at Thredbo.

Shortly before 5:30 pm on Thursday (27 July), NSW Police released a statement saying a 73-year-old man was skiing when he struck a pole on the edge of the ski run.

The incident took place at about 12:30 pm on Thursday.

“Other skiers commenced CPR prior to the arrival of medical staff, however he died at the scene,” a NSW Police spokesperson said.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Thredbo Resort extended their condolences.

“Thredbo is deeply saddened by the passing of a male guest whilst skiing at Thredbo Resort today,” the spokesperson said.

“Thredbo Ski Patrol promptly attended the scene and are currently working with the police.

“The Thredbo community extends its heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.”

Officers from Monaro Police District have established a crime scene, and they will conduct inquiries into the incident.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
