Tucked away at the end of a private laneway and nestled in unspoilt coastal bushland with filtered views out to the ocean, the contemporary and eco-friendly beach house at 35 Denise Drive in Lilli Pilli is attracting plenty of interest from those wanting a sea change.

Blackshaw real estate agent Pat Jameson says it started life as a little holiday cottage before the owners retired 15 years ago and dreamt of more.

“They thought they might renovate it, but the builders suggested a rebuild would be the more sensible option.”

Designed by BHI Architects, the three-bedroom, two-storey home complements the ferns and spotted gums perfectly.

“People really like the architectural style, and the fact there is plenty of high windows designed to take advantage of the environmental setting, with a nice northerly aspect taking advantage of the ocean view.”

More spotted gum flows through to the floorboards inside, complimenting a stylish open-plan layout and maximising a natural feel.

“From the moment you arrive, this is a home which has a spacious and welcoming feel,” Pat says.

The central modern kitchen and dining space flows seamlessly out to a covered north-facing deck with ocean views, making it ideal for relaxing and entertaining all year round.

The elevation provides a gorgeous outlook and encourages passive cooling by capturing sea breezes.

Upstairs, the light-filled main bedroom boasts an ensuite, walk-in wardrobe and concertina doors that open to the living room.

“The top storey is like a giant treehouse, wrapping right around the house. The current owner says that was the main thing they love about it.”

Downstairs has separate guest and family accommodation comprising two bedrooms with built-in robes serviced by a modern family bathroom and an additional living area or studio space.

The rest of the 1,347 square-metre property includes a low-maintenance garden, three rainwater tanks, and a double carport with space for a boat or caravan, all of it private and set apart from the main thoroughfares.

“It’s quite a large block that sits down a little lane on a loop road. It’s very, very private – you can’t just drive by it.”

Pat says it’s also a short stroll to Circuit Beach, “a beautiful beach the locals love very much”.

“The market has got a bit of caution in it at the moment with a looming election and interest rates, but it’s in a really nice area and we’re attracting plenty of interest.”

This master-crafted beach house will be auctioned on-site on Saturday, 21 May.
