The Kings Highway between Nelligen and Braidwood has reopened this afternoon after being closed for almost a week.

Volunteers from the State Emergency Service and Rural Fire Service as well as NSW Forestry Corporation and Transport for NSW have been working day and night to clear trees and rocks damaged by the Currowan Fire burning north of Batemans Bay.

Various sections of the Kings Highway have also been closed since the North Black Range Palerang fire a fortnight ago.

Back burning operations also forced the closure of the key link road between the coast and the capital.

Araluen Road has also been reopened.

Eurobodalla Shire Council is asking “locals to tell out of town mates the coast is as beautiful as ever” and “shout out to Canberrans to come on down.”

I am so proud of and want to thank all fire fighters and others involved in this activity for their incredible effort under such tough conditions. The term hero is often misused but it definitely belongs to you.
Thank you.

So pleased that I can return home tomorrow! Thank you to volunteers and other workers for all the hard work in difficult circumstances. So sorry for all those who have experienced loss due to the bushfires. Let’s all be vigilant about not engaging in activities that could cause more fires, and please, please rain!
