80 people enjoyed a free Christmas Day lunch at the Cooma Hub. Laughter and chatter filled the air.

Chatter and laughter filled the air as 80 Snowy Monaro residents came together to enjoy a free Christmas Day lunch in Cooma.

In its fourth year, the community lunch held at the Cooma Hub allowed locals who might have spent Christmas Day alone to share the festive occasion with others.

A two-course, traditional Christmas lunch was served as people from all walks of life conversed and shared stories.

“There was laughter throughout the day as people from all backgrounds enjoyed spending Christmas Day with others,” volunteer Kristy Harvey said.

“Everyone was welcome to attend the lunch, and those who did had a wonderful day. They were all very grateful for the lunch, and to share Christmas Day.

“A lovely little reunion took place when two residents who use to work together some 15-years ago found each other sitting at the same table.

The lunch was made possible through the generosity of the Snowy Monaro community with all food items donated by local businesses and families. The meal was cooked and served by volunteers.

The community Christmas lunch is an initiative of the Cooma Hub, YMCA, Snowy’s Place, and Snowy Monaro Regional Council.

“Our community is very generous and this was evident at the community Christmas lunch,” Kristy said.

At a time of year that can be lonely for some, the Cooma Hub provided a safe, inclusive space for locals to share the festive spirit. There was music, games, and presents handed out.

Christmas Day isn’t the only occasion where the Cooma Hub hosts a community lunch. Each Monday, Snowy’s Place opens it doors to provide a social cafe setting where locals can enjoy lunch and the company of others. Snowy’s Place is open from 12 pm to 1 pm each Monday.
