UPDATE 4:25 pm: The Barton Highway has now fully opened in both directions.
UPDATE 4:00 pm: The Barton Highway has partially re-opened after a two-vehicle crash that left a woman stuck in a car.
A NSW Police spokesperson told Region emergency services were called at about 1 pm earlier today (27 November).
A female driver, 42, was trapped in her vehicle and had to be freed from the car, suffering wrist injuries. Her eight-year-old passenger was uninjured.
Meanwhile, paramedics also treated a 27-year-old male driver for minor injuries.
The man and the woman were taken to Canberra Hospital by road, while officers attached to The Hume Police District responded and established a crime scene.
Inspector David Cowell called on motorists to take care when driving in rain, particularly around the crash site.
“With challenging weather conditions, we are encouraging motorists to drive to the conditions, be patient, slow down and obey the speed limit,” he said.
3:25 pm: The Barton Highway has been closed in both directions after a two-vehicle crash.
According to Live Traffic NSW, the highway is closed to southbound traffic at Murrumbateman, near Longrail Gully Road.
The road was previously closed in both directions.
Emergency services, Transport for NSW and a tow truck were called to the scene. It is understood at least one person has been freed from the wreckage.
Live Traffic NSW recommends motorists avoid the area and delay any non-essential travel.
Should travel be unavoidable, the website recommends that all vehicles, including B-doubles, use the Hume Highway and Federal Highway instead.
