An 80-year-old pedestrian was killed in what police believe was a fatal hit-and-run at Goulburn this week.

NSW Police are now seeking witnesses to the incident from Monday (11 September).

Emergency services were called to Middle Arm Road in Goulburn around 7:30 pm over reports a person was lying in the middle of the road, police said.

The pedestrian was found to have been suffering from critical head injuries.

Members of the public had stopped to help him, while he was also treated by paramedics, but tragically he died at the scene.

Police said initial inquiries indicated his injuries were consistent with being struck by a vehicle, and a crime scene was established.

“Crash investigators, with the assistance of local detectives, have commenced an investigation and will conduct inquiries including the man’s movements prior to the incident,” police said.

Police are calling for anyone who may have been travelling along Middle Arm Road or surrounding streets at the time and may have dashcam vision to contact them.

Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers by calling 1800 333 000 or visiting its website.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
