The property market continued to confound pundits in 2020. Instead of sending prices plunging, COVID-19 changed the way we looked at where we live. With the ability to work from home, suddenly a sea-change or tree-change seemed to make perfect sense.

Some people opted out of cities, while others are still dreaming of their great escape. Here, we have put together 14 properties likely to induce wanderlust in all of us.

14. Two acres, a Zen courtyard and a stunningly beautiful home

The stunningly beautiful four-bedroom, two-bathroom executive home at 9 Murray Grey Place in Murrumbateman is a peaceful paradise with every luxury feature you could wish for.

Set on two acres of land, the home is gracefully designed around an inner courtyard with a Japanese garden – a peaceful Zen zone that sets the tone for the home. The expansive deck from the Japanese garden to the back and along the rear of the home is perfect for entertaining, alfresco dining or absorbing some rays.

13. Goulburn heritage harmonises with light touches

Restorations, renovations, additions and multi-million-dollar residential property sales are throwing a spotlight on Goulburn’s collection of heritage homes.

As well as lifting prices in the historic, prestige residential market, investment from Sydney and Canberra means the owners of the limited number of heritage homes in a leafy, sought-after precinct can afford to splash out on designers, tradies, interior decorators and materials without risking over-capitalising.

Carefully considered renovations have been powering ahead, including at 12 Belmore Street, which was on the market for $1,030,000.

12. Back to the future at Victorian era Thornleigh and the (not so) Secret Garden

It’s renowned for its stunning gardens, which are as faithful to a cottage garden of the 1880s as they could possibly be. There are hundreds of bulbs, roses, annuals, perennials, heritage roses and trees. And for those who remember the childhood favourite film, The Secret Garden, you’ll be transported back to your youth at ‘Thornleigh’, behind a wall with all kinds of treasures within.

11. What could be better than making your own wine in an idyllic rural setting?

Swimming holes and waterfalls are waiting to be discovered along the creek beds, and the history of the homestead would intrigue anyone with a liking for bushrangers and gold discoveries.

‘Foxhill’ was built as an inn for travellers stopping overnight between Araluen and Braidwood, and had a secure store, the Gunnery, for the gold being transported to Braidwood for sale.
