With much of the region still subject to COVID-19 lockdowns, tree removal work on the Kings Highway will continue through the September school holidays as per the current closure schedule.
Closures will be in place from Tuesday to Thursday between 8 am and 3 pm until Thursday 30 September.
From Tuesday 5 October, closure times will be extended until 4 pm to maximise work in daylight hours and minimise the ongoing impact of the closure.
A Transport for NSW spokesperson said it made sense to push ahead with the critical safety work while the roads remain quiet.
“We are now into our third week of the closure and tree removal work has been progressing well,” a spokesperson said.
“Working through school holidays and continued good weather should allow us to complete the work earlier than originally anticipated and we will provide an update in the coming weeks on expected completion.”
Traffic control will be in place at Braidwood and Nelligen from 7:40 am each workday to advise motorists that the Kings Highway is closing at 8 am and that the road will be closed by the time people reach the work area.
Despite the road closure, motorists will still be able to travel without impact from Canberra to Braidwood and Batemans Bay to Nelligen.
The alternative north route will be via the Braidwood Road, Hume Highway, Picton Road and the Princes Highway and could add up to 6.5 hours of travel time depending on the road user’s origin and destination.
The alternative south route is via the Kings Highway, Monaro Highway, Snowy Mountains Highway and the Princes Highway and could add up to 5.5 hours of travel time depending on the road user’s origin and destination.
Motorists are advised to plan their journey, drive to conditions and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.
