“We want to hear from locals how to enhance this important public space, how to establish new activities and explore different ways to use the waterfront,” says Liz Rankin, Eurobodalla Shire Council’s Manager of Strategic Growth.
With large parts of the Batemans Bay foreshore wrapped up in the Bridge Replacement Project, talk and planning for the future look and feel of the space is moving forward.
Batemans Bay locals are invited to meet Council on the banks of the Clyde River to share ideas on how to activate the shire’s waterfront gateway.
Council will host three walk-and-talk events, starting from the shelters near Clyde Street:
- Thursday, August 22, 3 pm to 4 pm and 5:15 pm to 6:15 pm
- Saturday, August 24, 9:30 to 10:30 am
Ms Rankin says, the walk-and-talks will give people a chance to share solutions on how to best encourage activities for more residents and visitors to enjoy the foreshore.
“What would the community like to see in the urban design and built structures for the area? How do we create for Eurobodalla a waterfront gateway that helps drive social and economic benefits?”
She says boosting business and leisure along the foreshore will reinforce Batemans Bay as the shire’s gateway.
Council and the NSW Government have recognised the Bay as a key regional centre and tourism hub, and have a strong desire to revitalise the waterfront alongside the replacement of the Batemans Bay bridge.
“The NSW Government is investing in opportunities along the foreshore and we’ve invited specialist urban designers Inspiring Place to work with Council, businesses, landowners and the broader community on the Batemans Bay waterfront,” she says.
The end result will be the Batemans Bay Waterfront Master Plan and Activation Strategy, due to be completed early next year.
Works around the $247 million Batemans Bay Bridge project are ongoing with completion due early 2023.
