It’s been revealed unvaccinated people in some parts of regional NSW will actually lose some of their current freedom when the state hits the magic 70 per cent fully vaccinated target next month, as the State Government unveils more of its roadmap back to normality.
Deputy Premier John Barilaro said the new freedoms, expected to come on October 11, would apply only to those who were fully vaccinated. For unvaccinated people currently living in regional areas without lockdown orders, like the Bega Valley Shire, this means the freedoms they are currently enjoying will actually be wound back.
Sydney-siders will also be restricted from travelling to regional areas until the state hits the 80 per cent fully vaccinated mark, and it won’t be until at least December 1 when restrictions are relaxed for both the vaccinated and unvaccinated.
With access to vaccines in regional areas now increased, Mr Barilaro urged people to get vaccinated.
“Let’s keep climbing with those vaccination rates,” he said.
The 80 per cent rate is expected to be hit just two weeks after the 70 per cent vaccination rate is reached.
That is when fully vaccinated citizens will be allowed to travel throughout the state, stand and drink, have 10 vaccinated guests to their homes and community sport will also recommence.
At 80 per cent, there will be no caps on the number of people at funerals or weddings for those who are vaccinated, while places of worship will be open for both vaccinated and unvaccinated people.
To 8 pm yesterday, NSW recorded 787 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 and 12 deaths – six men and six women.
Southern NSW Local Health District (SNSWLHD) has been notified of nine new COVID-19 cases in the 24 hour reporting period.
This brings the total cases in SNSWLHD to 118 since the start of the current outbreak in June.
Of the nine new cases:
- Five new cases are in Batemans Bay. Four are linked to known cases and one is under investigation;
- Four new cases are in Queanbeyan and all are under investigation.
