UPDATED: Two men dead after being run over in North Nowra, 27-year-old charged

UPDATED 10 AM: A North Nowra man will face court today charged with serious driving offences after an accident that killed two other men on the state’s South Coast last night.

Emergency services were called to Condie Crescent, North Nowra, about 7 pm (Wednesday 31 May 2023), and found two men, aged 36 and 41, critically injured.

Police were told the men were lying on the road when they were run over by a utility.

Bystanders rendered first aid until NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived, however both men died at the scene.

The driver of the utility – a 27-year-old man – was breathtested at the scene and allegedly returned a positive result.

He was arrested and taken to Nowra Police Station, where he underwent a breath analysis, before being taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

Following further inquiries, he was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death-drive manner dangerous, negligent driving (occasioning death) and driving with middle-range prescribed concentration of alcohol.

He has been refused bail to appear in Nowra Local Court today (Thursday 1 June 2023).

Officers attached to the South Coast Police District are investigating reports that the men may have been lying on the road when they were run over by a utility being driven by a 27-year-old man.

The driver was taken to hospital to undergo mandatory testing.

A crime scene has been established and inquiries into the cause of the crash are under way.
