South Coast driver clocks almost 200km/h on Barton Highway

A NSW South Coast driver has been clocked speeding at almost 200km/h in north Canberra. ACT Policing said at about 1:40 pm on Saturday, 20 March, when it was raining slightly, officers saw a blue Ford Falcon sedan travelling east at speed on the Barton Highway, near Crace.

The 22-year-old driver from Bermagui was recorded travelling at 196km/h on a section of the highway that has a speed limit of 80km/h.

He received a $1841 fine and lost six demerit points for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h.

Police have urged all drivers to stick to the road rules for everyone’s safety and to be especially careful while driving during the current inclement weather.
