Search for missing swimmer at Gillards Beach, north of Tathra

Efforts to find a missing swimmer at Gillards Beach north of Tathra continue today.

Police report that at about 5.30 pm yesterday (August 14), emergency services were called to the popular campground, following reports of a missing swimmer.

“Witnesses have told police a 42-year-old Victorian man went for a run and swim earlier, but was not seen again, and his clothes and personal belongings remain on the beach,” police say.

“Officers from South Coast Police District attended and commenced a search for the man, coordinated by the Marine Area Command and assisted by State Emergency Service, Marine Rescue NSW, NSW Ambulance, Surf Rescue NSW, and PolAir.”

The search was suspended but will resume today.
