Scooter passenger, 23, dies in Dunmore truck crash

A truck driver has been charged after a passenger on a motorcycle scooter was killed in a crash at Dunmore on Sunday night (21 January).

The accident, involving a truck and motorcycle scooter, occurred at about 10 pm in the southbound lane of the Princes Highway, about 1 km south of the Shellharbour Rd overpass.

Police allege the heavy rigid truck collided with the rear of the motorcycle scooter.

Two females were ejected from the scooter. The pillion passenger – believed to be a 23-year-old woman who is yet to be formally identified – died at the scene.

NSW Ambulance Service paramedics treated the 23-year-old female rider for shoulder injuries and significant grazes. She was airlifted to St George Hospital in a serious condition.

The 48-year-old male truck driver was taken for mandatory testing before being conveyed to Oak Flats Police Station.

He has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death and causing bodily harm by misconduct.

The man will appear at Wollongong Local Court today (22 January).

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
