Police officer injured after serious motor vehicle accident

A police officer was injured early this morning after a serious crash on the Princes Highway near Pambula Lake.

At about 1:00 am on Wednesday morning a South Coast Police District police vehicle was travelling north along the Princes Highway when a Toyota Prado travelling south lost control and overturned, colliding head-on with the police vehicle near the intersection of Hardakers Road.

The Toyota driver, a 42-year-old woman, suffered a laceration to her arm. She was taken to Bega Hospital along with two passengers, a 22-year-old man and a four-year-old girl, for observation.

The driver and sole occupant of the police vehicle, a male senior constable, suffered a head injury. He was taken to Bega Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

A crime scene was established with officers from the Crash Investigation Unit attending. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident has commenced.
