Surf lifesavers in the Eurobodalla and Bega Valley have always had our back, now they have our ears! Surf Life Saving NSW has launched a new podcast series as the anticipation of summer builds.
Irreverently titled ‘What the Surf?!‘ the podcast features news and interviews with volunteer surf lifesavers from aournd New South Wales.
‘What the Surf?!‘ will feature passionate surf lifesavers from all 129 surf clubs along the NSW coastline and celebrates their bravery, achievements and commitment to protecting and saving lives.
Hosted by three highly-experienced surf lifesavers, the podcast series is lead by Surf Sports aficionado and up-and-coming commentator, Jess Collins from Redhead SLSC in the Hunter region, the dynamic Harold Marshall from NSW Club of the Year, Umina SLSC and Sean Hendry, who has red and yellow blood pumping through his veins, from Mollymook.
With their finger on the Surf Life Saving pulse, the geographically-diverse ‘What the Surf?!‘ hosts bring their extensive knowledge to the microphone and in each episode discuss the who, what, where and when of the iconic movement.
Surf Life Saving NSW CEO Steven Pearce says that the podcast will appeal to a diverse audience and inspire people with the latest news and stories from those on the frontline of Surf Life Saving.
“Our members do remarkable things and the What the Surf?! team talks one-on-one with the people who are the heart and soul of our movement. From Pambula to Cudgen Headland, we hear our members’ stories – in their own words,” Pearce says.
“Whether it’s a surf sports athlete competing at Ironman level, lifesavers who’ve been awarded Rescue of the Month or a bunch of excited Nippers, you can bet that our What the Surf?! team will be talking to them in the podcast.”
Surf Life Saving NSW President George Shales says the series will give members, and anyone interested in Surf Life Saving, a new way to catch-up with what’s happening across the organisation.
“The What the Surf?! podcast is a great way for us to connect with people wherever they are, whatever they’re doing,” he says.
“It’s an important new communication channel for us. The podcast series makes it easy for listeners to catch-up with what’s going on in Surf Life Saving while they’re on the bus, train, in the car or even walking on the beach.”
The series has been developed with the assistance of the Australian Film Television and Radio School, with new episodes published monthly.
