A new batch of nurses have just started their training in a national first for Batemans Bay.
‘We are the first Community College in Australia to be accredited to deliver the Diploma, and we are just thrilled’, says South Coast Careers College CEO Sarah Watterson.
The Australian Nursing & Midwifery Accreditation Council have given the go-ahead for the Careers College to deliver the Diploma of Nursing. The first group of students is just settling into their studies, which includes time in the Nursing Simulation Lab at the Batemans Bay campus.
Students will learn how to communicate effectively with patients and other staff, administer and monitor medications, manage wounds and prepare health assessments and care plans.
“The Diploma will be delivered over an 18 month period with students attending three days per week,” Ms Watterson says.
“Course content will be presented via a variety of learning methods including face-to-face lectures, online content and hands-on experience during clinical placement.”
While Batemans Bay is the only campus to offer the Diploma of Nursing at the moment, the College hopes to offer the course at both Merimbula and Ulladulla in the future.
“The successful graduates will be able to apply for Enrolled Nurse registration,” Ms Watterson says.
“Enrolled Nurses work in a variety of healthcare environments providing clinical care and emotional support to their patients.
“Graduates may also choose to go on to University to expand on their qualifications.”
