Investigators attempting to trace COVID-19 infections in southern NSW have a big job on their hands with only three of the 25 new cases announced today (8 October, 2021) linked to known infections.
Southern NSW Local Health District (SNSWLHD) has been notified of 25 new COVID-19 cases in the 24 hours to 8 pm yesterday (7 October, 2021), bringing total case numbers in SNSWLHD to 342 since the start of the current outbreak in June this year.
Of the 25 new cases:
- Eight new cases are in the Queanbeyan-Palerang region – three in Karabar, two in Crestwood, two in Wamboin and one in Bungendore. All are under investigation.
- Six new cases are in the Goulburn Mulwaree region. All are under investigation.
- Nine new cases in the Snowy Monaro region – three in Cooma, four in Jindabyne, and two in Crackenback. Three are linked to known cases, and six are under investigation.
- Two new cases in the Eurobodalla region – both are in Bodalla and under investigation.
SNSWLHD has also been notified of new venues of concern associated with COVID-19 cases, including more venues in Jindabyne, Cooma and Tathra. The full list is available to view here.
Anyone who visited one of these venues at the times listed is a casual contact and must immediately get tested and isolate until a negative result is received.
If additional venues are identified through further contact tracing, these will be announced as soon as they are known.
Anyone who checked in to a venue of concern during the times listed – using the QR code through the Service NSW app – will be notified by SMS from NSW Health as soon as possible during the next 48 hours.
Across the state, NSW recorded 646 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8 pm last night.
There were 11 deaths: two women and nine men.
Seven people were not vaccinated, three had received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and one had received two doses.
There has been one new confirmed case of COVID-19 in the Murrumbidgee Local Health District to 8 pm last night.
The case is a member of the Kildare Catholic College community and attended the school site for one day during their infectious period. All close and casual contacts have been identified.
NSW Health is working closely with the Catholic Education Diocese of Wagga Wagga to communicate with people who are impacted and will continue to correspond with relevant parties through the school.
NSW Health has identified about 90 close contacts who are in isolation. Approximately 100 casual contacts have also been identified and are required to get a COVID-19 test on day three and day five from the date of exposure, and isolate until they receive a negative test result.
Kildare Catholic College has been commended for adhering to strict COVID-19 safety protocols and minimising the risk of exposure to its community. No bus services were impacted.
