A man will appear in Queanbeyan Local Court today after being extradited from the ACT charged over a string of assaults on the South Coast earlier this month.
The man was sought by NSW Police after the incidents at Catalina and Surf Beach.
Yesterday they were advised that a 29-year-old man was being released from the Canberra Hospital.
He was arrested and taken to the ACT Magistrates Court where NSW Police sought his extradition.
He was then taken to Queanbeyan Police Station and charged with numerous offences including aggravated break and enter, committing a serious indictable offence, aggravated stealing from a person and assault (DV).
The man was refused bail to appear at Queanbeyan Local Court today.
Police said that about 4:45 pm on Wednesday 5 September 2018, a man was involved in a domestic argument at a Catalina home with a woman who was known to him. The woman was assaulted and her handbag stolen during the fight.
A short time later, a unit at Surf Beach Avenue, Surf Beach was broken into and the male occupant was assaulted. A 60-year-old woman who lived in a nearby unit tried to intervene as the man was driving off in a vehicle but she was hit by the car and left with suspected leg and pelvic fractures. A bystander came to the woman’s aid.
The man drove away from the area and was last seen in Tasman Street at Surf Beach after the stolen car he was travelling in hit a gutter.
