A man will face court next week charged with eight offences following multiple police pursuits throughout the Hume region.

Just after 9:30 am on Thursday (23 June), officers were on routine patrols in Robertson in the Southern Highlands when they saw a Holden Commodore. Checks revealed it was allegedly stolen earlier in the week.

Police began to chase the car after the driver allegedly failed to stop, however the pursuit was terminated at Moss Vale due to safety concerns.

The vehicle was spotted again on the Hume Highway at Sutton Forest before a second pursuit was commenced.

It’s alleged the driver failed to stop and police chased the sedan to Wingello, but again terminated the pursuit when police said the car was driven onto the wrong side of the road.

At 10:10 am, officers saw the vehicle for a third time on the Hume Highway at Penrose and began a pursuit. The driver again allegedly drove onto the wrong side of the road before the chase was called off.

Police deployed road spikes near Uringalla Creek, Marulan, before the driver stopped and was arrested at about 10:30 am.

Officers searched the vehicle, where they said they found methamphetamine, prescription medication and a knife.

The 35-year-old male driver was taken to Goulburn Hospital before he was then taken to Goulburn Police Station.

There he was charged with eight offences:

  • Police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly (x3)
  • Drive vehicle under influence
  • Drive conveyance taken without consent of owner
  • Possess prohibited drug
  • Possess/attempt to, prescribed restricted substance
  • Custody of knife in public place

The man was refused bail to appear in Goulburn Local Court on Wednesday (6 July) next week.
