A man’s been charged south of Bega after allegedly driving more than four times the legal limit with two young children in his car.
Police were patrolling the Princes Highway at Yellow Pinch (about 24 km south of Bega) when they attempted to stop a Nissan Pathfinder at about 4:40 pm on Saturday (27 August).
Officers alleged the driver failed to stop which resulted in a pursuit where the car reached speeds of 90 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.
The Nissan eventually stopped on Candelo-Wolumla Road, Wolumla.
Officers spoke with the 34-year-old male driver, who had two children aged 8 and 9 in the vehicle. The driver took a roadside breath test which was allegedly positive.
He was arrested and taken to Bega Police Station where he underwent a second breath analysis, which returned an alleged reading of 0.222.
The 34-year-old man was charged with high-range PCA (second offence), drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous (second offence), drive with breath sample from other in interlock device, and contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO.
He was refused bail in Batemans Bay Local Court today (29 August).
The children were not hurt.
