Motorists travelling between the coast and the ACT for the Canberra Day long weekend are being warned to expect significant traffic delays on the Kings Highway as a result of recent rain.
Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council says a section of the highway between Tudor Valley Road and Northangera Road, about 10 to 15 kilometres east of Braidwood, has failed.
Emergency road repairs are underway to make the area safe.
As of this afternoon, Friday 11 March, the construction site is under stop/slow traffic control.
“Drivers heading to the South Coast for the Canberra Day long weekend should expect significant delays as the queue of traffic at the site is already very long, and expected to get longer,” a QPRC spokesperson said.
“Delays should also be expected for the return trip after the long weekend.
“We ask all drivers to allow additional travel time, be patient, and drive to the conditions.”
LiveTraffic is also warning motorists to expect delays as holiday traffic starts to build.
When motorists finally arrive at the coast, they are being urged to take extra care. Relentless rain from an East Coast low over the past two weeks has caused many roads to become badly potholed, with reports of a number of tyres and cars being damaged.
