UPDATED: A man has died following a multi-vehicle crash on the Kings Highway, near Goulburn Rd, Mulloon.
Monaro Police say a Mazda sedan and a heavy vehicle “impacted”, before the sedan and an Audi SUV collided head-on.
The driver and sole occupant of the sedan – a man aged 51 – died at the scene.
The male driver of the heavy vehicle was not injured, while the male driver of the SUV – and his female front seat passenger – sustained minor injuries. A child in the back seat was not injured.
The Kings Highway east of Bungendore is still closed, and diversions are in place at Bungendore and Goulburn Road.
A crime scene has been established and police have begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
2:45 pm: The Kings Highway has been cut between Bungendore and Braidwood, with motorists asked to avoid the area if possible.
Eastbound traffic was getting through after a serious crash around 12:15 pm 13 January but by 2:40 pm the highway was closed in both directions.
The accident, between a Mazda and an Audi, happened about two kilometres towards Bungendore from the Goulburn turnoff.
Early reports indicate four people were involved in the crash. Three are reportedly in a stable condition in Canberra Hospital.
One man was seriously injured and police are expected to make a statement about his condition later this afternoon.
Four Ambulance crews and the Toll Ambulance Rescue Helicopter were sent to the scene.
Anyone in the area should exercise caution and reduce their speed.
Motorists are being urged to use an alternate route.
