Kings Highway closed following fatal accident

The Kings Highway is closed east of Bungendore after a fatal accident on the busy route earlier this afternoon, Sunday 2 October.

The accident happened at about 3:23 pm near Harrowfield Drive, east of Bungendore. The driver of one vehicle died at the scene while another was trapped when two cars collided on the main transport link between Canberra and the coast.

A passenger was released from the wreckage and airlifted to Canberra Hospital.

An investigation into the circumstances of the incident has commenced but no further information is available at this stage.

Motorists are being told to expect major delays along the Kings Highway and should avoid the area.

Eastbound traffic is being diverted via Tarago Rd, Bungendore Rd and Goulburn St to Tarago, then Braidwood Rd and Goulburn Rd to Kings Hwy.

Westbound traffic is being diverted via Goulburn Rd and Braidwood Rd to Tarago, then Goulburn St, Bungendore Rd and Tarago Rd to Bungendore.

This route will add around 20 minutes to your journey.
