A section of the Hume Highway near Goulburn became a crime scene over the weekend after human remains were discovered in the bush.
Police said a woman contacted them after coming across the remains in grassland about 200 metres south of the Windellama Road overpass at about 9 am on Friday (28 July).
A crime scene was set up and forensically examined before specialist officers conducted a more extensive search of the area.
This led to more human remains being discovered.
The remains are being forensically examined to determine their identity.
Hume Police District officers are working with the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad as the investigation continues.
