A section of the Hume Highway near Goulburn became a crime scene over the weekend after human remains were discovered in the bush.

Police said a woman contacted them after coming across the remains in grassland about 200 metres south of the Windellama Road overpass at about 9 am on Friday (28 July).

A crime scene was set up and forensically examined before specialist officers conducted a more extensive search of the area.

This led to more human remains being discovered.
