Goulburn’s Convoy for Kids is ready to roll – albeit in a different format this year.
While the fundraising event for seriously ill children normally consists of up to 200 big rigs from all over the state, this year’s mystery drive is open to all vehicles.
The COVID-safe mystery drive will depart from the Gateway Service Station from 10 am on Sunday 14 November and drivers will tag along the 150-kilometre mystery route.
C4K Goulburn president Colin Imms is excited the event will proceed because the charity provides support for local children with cancer, terminal illness, permanent disabilities and those in need by providing financial assistance to their families.
“So many events have been cancelled and it has been tough over the last couple of years due to COVID-19 and C4K Goulburn is keen to run this event and give the community something to enjoy,” Colin said.
“With our community vaccination rates up and more freedoms becoming available to everyone, we wanted to still have some sort of convoy event this year.
“Our mystery drive event will be COVID-19 safe. Social distancing protocols will be followed along with QR code check-in being required upon commencement.”
Colin said the drive would be a “much-needed escape for enthusiasts and supporters alike”.
Drivers can register for the mystery drive via the Convoy for Kids website.
In recent years, the event has received wonderful support with record numbers of entries, record crowds and record levels of funds being raised and the committee of volunteers hope this year will be no exception.
At the conclusion of the drive, participants will be invited to share an alfresco barbecue lunch, in line with NSW Health guidelines in place at the time.
Supporters can also help raise funds via an online auction and a giant raffle which includes travel, gardening and fuel vouchers.
C4K Goulburn also has plenty of merchandise for sale including their new custom face masks.
COVID-19 may have put a stop to the carnival day element of the event, but Colin says “there are still plenty of exciting things happening for Convoy 2021.”
“Hopefully, as in past years, everyone will give great support to this, our major annual fundraising event,” he added.
