One of Goulburn’s leading children’s charity organisations, Convoy For Kids, is aiming to break records, with more than 285 trucks and vehicles expected to participate in their carnival day this November.
Last year the volunteer-run event raised more than $30,000, which was then distributed to local families with children who were sick or had permanent disabilities.
Convoy for Kids Goulburn president Colin Imms said he was very excited to have the 23-year-old annual charity event run again at full capacity.
“COVID had affected us big time,” Colin said.
“We had to cancel the 2020 event. Then our 2021 event went ahead, but it was just a modified convoy and we didn’t actually have a carnival day because of the COVID restrictions.
“This year we will host our first one back after three years.”
The 2022 Convoy for Kids Goulburn will be held on Saturday 19 November from 12 – 9 pm.
Colin said the convoy was a major fundraising event for Goulburn.
“The whole organization is about raising money to support local kids in need,” he said.
“One of the reasons we like to do it is because it’s an opportunity for us to give back to the community, and we put it on for the kids.
“This year, we’ve decided to make it free entry for all kids under 18, which includes unlimited access to all the carnival rides.”
The event is expected to have free face-painting, live performances, belly dancing groups, bingo competitions, market stalls coming from around Canberra and Sydney, and more.
“It’s going to be a great carnival atmosphere, and I think it’ll be one of the biggest events in Goulburn this year,” Colin said.
“Bluey and Bingo are coming along to our carnival day too, and will be giving three performances on stage through the event.
“They are also doing a meet and greet session with those who were lucky enough to snatch up these positions.”

The Convoy for Kids president said there would also be 50 amazing market stalls offering a great variety of products from local producers from the Canberra region and a ceramic truck painting competition to enter.
“There are some great prizes on offer, which also gives the kids a fantastic keepsake from the day,” Colin said.
“We will also have kids from The Crescent School, which is a local special needs school, paint trucks prior to the day, then they will be displayed on the table for people to view them.
“It’s just a nice thing to be involved in.”
Aiming for an attendance of 5000 people, Colin said the event was going to be a perfect day out for families. It will also feature a special concert by headline act Hurricane Fall, supported by local artists.
“It’ll be a great day for the family. There’s so many activities and events happening, and chances for prizes and at the end of the day, there’s something for everyone,” he said.
“For me, anyway that we can help each other and those who are in need is a really good thing and it gives you that warm and fuzzy feeling.
“I’m actually really proud to be associated with the Convoy for Kids Goulburn because it’s a charity with such a good name.”
