A freight train derailed at around 4 am this morning (15 January) as it travelled through the Bethungra Rail Spiral between Junee and Cootamundra.
According to Fire and Rescue NSW, 10 carriages of the 1400-metre long goods train derailed near the Olympic Highway south of Cootamundra.
NSW RFS and NSW Police were on the scene at dawn assessing the contents for hazardous materials and have confirmed no spills occured.
It is understood the crew escaped serious injury.
Drone footage of the incident shows multiple carriages have left the track.
The Bethungra Spiral is a heritage-listed rail spiral near Bethungra carrying the northbound track of the Melbourne to Sydney railway line.
An investigation is underway.
