The man charged over a damaging blaze at a country hotel in the Monaro will fight the allegations against him.

Earlier this year, 39-year-old David Robert Culican was handed an arson charge after the fire at Bombala’s Globe Hotel.

Emergency services had been called to the blaze about 4:20 am on 25 June, 2022, and while fire crews did put out the flames, the property sustained extensive damage.

Police began investigating after the scene was examined and the fire’s cause was believed to be suspicious.

Mr Culican, of Ambarvale in south-west Sydney, appeared in the Queanbeyan Local Court in person on Monday (20 February), which was the first occasion his charges were heard in court.

He entered not guilty pleas to charges of damaging property by fire/explosive (more than $15,000) and possessing ammunition without authority.

Magistrate Roger Clisdell adjourned the matter to 2 May.
