A woman will appear in Queanbeyan Local Court next month to face seven charges, including drink and drug driving, following a serious crash that led to a passenger having her leg amputated.
At about 10:00 pm on Saturday, 9 January 2021, a black Toyota Hilux was travelling north on Captains Flat Road at Primrose Valley, about 30 km south-east of Queanbeyan, when it left the road, crashed into a guard rail and rolled.
The driver, a 27-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries.
Her front-seat passenger, a 29-year-old woman, was ejected from the vehicle and suffered leg and internal injuries.
They were both taken to Canberra Hospital where the passenger had her leg amputated. She remains in hospital receiving treatment.
The driver underwent mandatory testing.
A second passenger, a 37-year-old man, did not require treatment at the scene but later attended the same hospital with rib fractures.
Following inquiries, investigators from the Crash Investigation Unit arrested the driver, a now 28-year-old woman, at home in Rossi just before 9:30 am on Monday, 14 June.
She was taken to Queanbeyan Police Station and charged with numerous offences, including dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, driving under the influence, causing bodily harm by wilful neglect in charge of a motor vehicle, negligent driving (occasioning grievous bodily harm), negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm) and driving a vehicle with an illicit drug present.
The woman was granted conditional bail to appear in Queanbeyan Local Court on Monday, 12 July 2021.
