Fancy owning a piece of the old Batemans Bay Bowling Club?

Equipment and furniture from the closed facility is up for auction starting today (July 25)!

Eurobodalla Shire Council has engaged experienced government auctioneer Grays Online to run the sale.

Items on offer include furniture, catering equipment, bar fixtures, and fittings, as well as audio and lighting.

Council says objects of local and sentimental value have already been removed by members of the local historical society and bowling clubs.

Items for auction can be viewed via Grays Online from 4 pm today (July 25) when bidding starts, bids close at 6.30 pm on Tuesday, July 31.

Inspections are available on Monday, July 30 between 9 am and 3 pm. Items purchased may be collected between 9am and 3pm on August 2 and 3.

All money raised by the auction will be returned to Council.

Council is handing the site over to NSW Roads and Maritime Services under a three-year lease agreement for use as the main construction compound for the new Batemans Bay Bridge.

RMS will demolish the building as part of the agreement. Timeframes around demolition will be a decision for RMS.

A valuation revealed the site was worth more with the building demolished, and the report presented to Council noted it was more cost effective for ratepayers if RMS demolished the building, rather than Council demolishing it at the end of the lease.

Beyond the sites life as a construction compound Council has ambitious plans for a new aquatic and cultural facility on the adjoining land taking in the Batemans Bay pool and Mckay Park.

Once the new bridge is complete Council has signaled its intention to develop the bowling club site.

Under Mayor Lindsay Brown, Council purchased the site in April 2016 for $2.7 million dollars.

“Being able to purchase this important site in our largest town is a great outcome for our community and I am excited about the opportunities it opens up for Batemans Bay and Eurobodalla,” Cr Brown said at the time.

“Purchasing this strategic site is a financially responsible investment into the future of Batemans Bay and the shire. There has been strong support for Council to purchase this site for some time and we have already heard a number of suggestions on what can be done with it.”
