Major renovations at Broulee Surf Club have improved safety at the popular beach, with a new floor in the patrol tower giving lifesavers a better view of the surf.
Broulee Surf Club member and age manager for the under-14 group Jessica Campbell, said the builders did a great job.
“The renovations look incredible,” she said.
“The new floor on the patrol tower will make it safer for the public – we can see far more than we could before.”
Along with the upgraded tower comes a state-of-the-art first aid room, just in time for the club’s busiest season – the Christmas holidays.
Broulee Surf Club President Gary Pettigrove said the room was an important addition to improving public safety.
“The first aid room is spacious and professional,” he said.
Other upgrades include new member change rooms and showers (male, female, unisex/disabled), as well as kitchen facilities in the tower for members on patrol.
Mr Pettigrove said he was looking forward to seeing members in the upgraded building.
“The clubhouse is looking fantastic,” he said.
While the upgrades improve the building aesthetically, the renovations have also kept the traditional look and feel of the clubhouse.
Moruya-based builders Total Construction Services carried out the work, which was funded through a combination of grants and sponsors.
“We appreciate the financial contribution from the Federal Government, NSW State Government, Surf Life Saving NSW, Commonwealth Bank, Newscorp Foundation, Solar Hub and Dulux,” Mr Pettigrove said.
Facilities have also been added and improved for public use, including a new bar and café.
“The café is planning to open in December,” Mr Pettigrove said.
On 12 November, the new bar will open for the public, doubling as an opportunity for the local community to see the improvements.
While many renovations, upgrades and safety improvements were made, all were completed on budget – a fact Mr Pettigrove is proud of.
“Our building project has been delivered on budget and to a very high quality,” he said.
“An amazing effort from the team and hours of individual contributions made it a success.”
Members of the club are thrilled with the new renovations.
“It’s very exciting to see these new upgrades – it looks really good,” one club member said.
A formal opening date is yet to be announced with Federal Member for Gilmore Fiona Phillips and State Member for Bega Andrew Constance to be in attendance.
