Terrifying footage of a truck crash near Cooma has been released as part of investigations by police.
NSW Police said about 3 pm on Thursday (24 June), emergency services were told a truck had crashed and rolled after allegedly being forced off the Monaro Highway near Chakola, 20km north of Cooma.
Police arrived to find the Isuzu truck on its side in a ditch just off the roadway. The driver was treated at the scene by paramedics for a head injury.
As part of their inquiries, officers looked at dashcam footage from vehicles near the crash.
On footage released by police a white vehicle can be seen travelling south before crossing into the northbound lane to overtake a pantech-type truck.
Police said the driver of the truck – which was travelling north – took evasive action to avoid a collision and was allegedly forced onto the shoulder of the road before flipping and rolling into a ditch.
“The driver of the white vehicle – possibly a BMW X3 SUV – continued south, not stopping to render assistance,” they alleged.
Police are calling for anyone who has information about the white vehicle, or additional footage, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
There was another road-related incident near Cooma earlier on the same day.
Emergency services had been called to the Snowy Mountains Highway, near Old Dry Plains Road at Cooma, at about 3:40 am on Thursday after being told an injured man had been found on the road.
Police said the 36-year-old was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Canberra Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
“Inquiries have revealed the man was hit by a vehicle, not further described, that failed to stop,” NSW Police said.
