A crash near Talbingo in the state’s alpine region has claimed the life of a woman and injured a man and a child.
Emergency services were called to the Snowy Mountains Highway 20km south-east of Talbingo, about 2 pm on Monday (11 April), after reports of a crash involving a truck and a car.
Officers attached to Riverina Police District arrived and discovered a northbound Toyota Corolla and a southbound prime mover had collided head-on in the northbound lanes, before the truck travelled over an embankment.
The driver of the car, a 48-year-old Sydney woman, died at the scene.
The woman’s only passenger, an 11-year-old boy, was trapped for a short time before being freed by Fire and Rescue NSW.
He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for arm injuries before being flown to hospital, where he’s believed to be in a stable condition.
The male driver of the heavy vehicle, also aged 48, was taken to hospital to be checked and undergo mandatory testing.
A crime scene was established with officers from the Crash Investigation Unit (CIU) examining the scene.
Snowy Mountains Highway between Miles Franklin Drive at Talbingo and Link Road, Adaminaby/Kosciuszko National Park is now open to traffic with traffic controllers on site.

This is the second fatal crash in the region in the past month with a Victorian man charged following a fatal four-vehicle crash near Cooma on March 11.
The 19-year-old man was arrested after being released from hospital the previous day.
He has been charged with causing bodily harm by misconduct – in charge of a motor vehicle, negligent driving (occasioning death) and dangerous driving occasioning death – drive manner dangerous. His driver’s licence was also suspended.
He was given conditional bail and will appear in Cooma Local Court on Wednesday 18 May 2022.
