An 18-year-old woman has been convicted following a police pursuit in Hay that ended with road spikes being deployed.
Cowra woman Darla Charles-Goolagong did not front Hay Local Court but Magistrate Trevor Khan convicted her in her absence.
There was no plea recorded and the accused was found guilty of the passenger not disclosing the driver’s/other passenger’s identity and the responsible person/custodian not disclosing the driver’s details and has been ordered to pay a fine of $1500.
In March, police said Traffic and Highway Patrol officers attempted to stop a Great Wall utility travelling on the Sturt Highway at Balranald.
When the vehicle failed to stop, a pursuit ensued and ended in Hay after road spikes were deployed.
The vehicle stopped in the CBD area and the driver, John Moore, fled while Charles-Goolagong was arrested.
Following a search of the area, Moore was arrested after being found hiding on the veranda of a home.
The former Mt Austin man faced Griffith Local Court in March charged with a litany of offences, including ten outstanding warrants from 2020, 2021 and 2022. His bail was denied.
Moore was charged with not stopping during a police pursuit, driving dangerously, unlicensed driving, driving under the influence of drugs, and entering enclosed land without lawful excuse.
Ten outstanding warrants were also executed on Moore for 17 alleged offences.
Police allege he failed to stop the vehicle when directed by Traffic and Highway Patrol officers.
Moore fronted Griffith Local Court last month (3 May), where he pleaded guilty to never licensed person driving a vehicle on the road, police pursuit – not stopping and driving dangerously, driving a vehicle under the influence of drugs and entering enclosed land and premises without lawful excuse.
The Canberra resident will front Griffith Local Court on 30 June for sentencing.
