Unidentified bone fragments found during investigation into decades-old disappearance

Homicide detectives have uncovered two unidentified bone fragments during their investigation into the 1999 disappearance of a man from Queanbeyan.

Paul Wheeler disappeared in “suspicious circumstances” on 6 August, 1999, from High Place in Queanbeyan.

Strike Force Tuno 2 was established to investigate his disappearance, with strike force detectives searching a Nelligen property between 20 and 22 May, 2025.

Detectives combed the area with the assistance of SES members, where the two unidentified bone fragments were seized for further forensic examination.

“No human remains were found,” a NSW Police statement read.

Strike Force Tuno 2 was reportedly established to investigate suspected bikie-related disappearances and deaths.
