8.30 am: A truck driver has been seriously injured after his vehicle left the Kings Highway and overturned down an embankment near Nelligen this morning, 15 March.
The accident happened in wet weather at about 6.50 am on Tuesday, about 300 metres east of Old Bolaro Road. It’s believed the truck driver was heading west when his light tipper truck crossed the road, hit the railing and landed on the driver’s side. A tree prevented it rolling further down the embankment.
Heavy vehicles are being advised to avoid travelling along the Kings Highway between Batemans Bay and Braidwood, with no suitable diversions available.
Motorists are also being urged to avoid the area if possible. If not, they should allow extra travel time and follow the directions of emergency services on scene.
Traffic is heavy in both directions. Alternating (stop/slow) traffic conditions are in place.
The male driver was the only occupant of the truck and has reportedly sustained serious injury with a possible head injury.
About 8 am a rescue helicopter had landed at Mackay Park in Batemans Bay and was on stand-by to airlift the man to hospital
