It’s a little bit of a commercial yarn but one that finds the people of Boorowa feeling a bit sheepish ahead of the October long weekend’s Irish Woolfest.
After being postponed for two years by everything that has stopped us rotating with the planet, everything that is Irish and woolly will be showcased during the one day of festivities on October 2.
But if you find yourself yearning for a cuppa you might just be in luck as stocks of coffee could be at an all-time high in the homes of the many citizens of the town.
And if you find yourself in the kitchen of one of those homes pay mind to the coffee tin – because that tells a very special story.
Yes. In celebration of the 2022 Irish Woolfest, those purveyors of coffee and other yummy treats – Nestlé – has stepped up to share with Australians all that is the spirit of the South West Slopes town.
The company has partnered with the Boorowa Rotary Club for a campaign called ‘Celebrate Australia’ to raise a cuppa to communities coming together across the nation.
The campaign has kick-started by celebrating Boorowa and the iconic Irish Woolfest through an illustration on the new limited-edition one kilo tin of Nescafé Blend 43 as part of the new Celebrate Community Spirit collection.
The colourful graphic and accompanying blurb tells the story of how the local festival captures the extraordinary stories and community spirit of the Boorowa people.
As part of the celebration Nestlé has donated $5000 to the Boorowa Rotary Club to help support a local initiative.
Boorowa Rotary Club secretary Jenny Carter said the donation would be used to build seats made from recycled materials for placement along popular walking tracks around town.
“We are thrilled to receive this donation from Nestlé Professional to help strengthen areas of our community,” Jenny said.
“The new seats and trees planted along popular walking tracks, such as the River Walk, will give Boorowa residents and visitors the chance to embrace and enjoy our beautiful town,” she added.
Mayor of Hilltops Council, Margaret Roles, said she was thrilled to see the essence of Boorowa’s community recognised on the new Nescafé Blend 43 tins.
“The Irish Woolfest is deeply engrained in our town and district and seeing the spirit of our community immortalised on these tins means a lot to us as a great long-lasting keepsake,” she said.
Nestlé Professional Oceania general manager Scott Stuckmann said the Boorowa Irish Woolfest was chosen to feature on their tins as it displayed incredible community spirit.
“This iconic event brings joy to the thousands of Aussies who come together, celebrating what makes this town so special,” he said, “just as a cup of Nescafé Blend 43 brings people together, we want to celebrate community events that do the same.”
Alongside the $5000 donation, Nestlé Professional has given the Boorowa Rotary Club 384 limited-edition Nescafé Blend 43 Boorowa tins, which the club will sell or donate to the local community, with any profits retained by the club.
Nestle’s ‘Celebrate Australia’ collection showcases six Australian towns each with a unique story to tell about their community spirit.
Three towns are featured on the one kilo tins of Nescafé Blend 43: Boorowa, Mandurah, and Alice Springs.
Another three towns, Charters Towers, Burnie, and Geelong are displayed on 1.9 kilo tins of Milo.
The Celebrate Australia collection will be available from October 2022.
